Lagunitas A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale

Lagunitas Brewing Co. – Petaluma, CA

A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale – 7.5% ABV

64.20 IBU, O.G. 1.076

“Net contents: 12 fluid oz’s… of hops, malt, hops, hops, yeast, hops, water, and hops.  Life is uncertain.  Don’t sip.”

Purchased at Wegman’s Warrington on 3/26 in their “make a 6-pack for $11.99”.

The pour is hazy and golden with ample head.  The head is cream-colored and thick.  It faded after about 10 minutes to a sheet of surface bubbles.  There is a tiny bit of visible carbonation.

The aroma is delicious: fruity hop aromas including pineapple, peaches, possibly some apricot and definitely some mango.  While the fruit is certainly present in the aroma, there is also a familiar hoppy bitterness.

The flavor is sweet and fruity as an introduction, then moving through a nice malt profile, and finishing with a great back-of-the-tongue bitterness.  It’s great for the first 80 degree day of the year.  I can’t say it’s very complex, but it knows exactly what it wants to be: a fruity sweet, but bitter IPA.  Nice.

The mouth feel is on the thicker, heavier side.  I would say it’s medium to full bodied.  The carbonation is perfect with a nice texture and counterbalance to the thickness.  Drinkability is high.  If it wasn’t 7.5%, I could definitely make this a session beer.

Lagunitas’ web site calls this a Wheat-esque beer, but it tastes like a great IPA to me.  Either way, it’s awesome.  I’ll be back to Wegman’s for more.

Overall – A-
